SynthMaker · Privacy
Applies to SynthMaker for iPhone, iPad and Mac, including the Mac app downloaded from synthmaker.com, and to the website synthmaker.com with the web app at synthmaker.com/app, published by ViDesk Ltd (the data controller). Last updated 30 October 2026.
Your sounds, songs and settings stay on your device or in your browser. We keep data on our server only for what you choose to use: a website account (with your sounds and songs), the community, or a message you send us. The Mac app from synthmaker.com also tells us its version when it opens.
No tracking
The SynthMaker apps have no advertising and no tracking. The App Store and TestFlight apps have no analytics; the Mac app from synthmaker.com reports only its version when it opens (see below). The website counts visits without cookies (see below). We don't sell or share your data for advertising, and we don't follow you across other apps or websites.
If you test SynthMaker through TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports and any feedback you choose to send with us, under Apple's TestFlight terms.
In the apps: what stays on your device
- Your sounds, songs, clips, visuals and the videos you make. They live in the app's folder on your device (and in Files, if you open them there).
- Your settings, tutorial progress and choices such as which AI model to use.
None of this is sent to us. Videos you save go to your Photos library only when you choose to save them; the app asks for permission first. Like other app data, these files may be included in your own iCloud or computer backups, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy.
The website and the web app
- Hosting: synthmaker.com is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it handles technical information such as your IP address to deliver the pages and keep the site secure.
- Counting visits: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they open, which sites linked to us, the kind of browser and device, the country, and how fast pages load. It uses no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and isn't used to follow you across websites. We see totals, not individual visitors.
- The web app runs entirely in your browser, on SynthMaker's own engine. The sounds you play and the knobs you turn aren't sent to us. Signed out, the sounds you make (My sounds) are kept in your browser, not on our server; files you download or open stay on your device, and nothing in them is sent to us. Signed out, the song you're playing (its tracks, their sounds and clips, and its tempo) is kept in your browser too. If you connect a MIDI keyboard, its notes stay in your browser. The web app remembers in your browser that you've read its beta notice; clearing this site's data in your browser removes that.
- Lessons and tutorials on the web app play Ned's voice from synthmaker.com and run in your browser; nothing you do in them is sent to us. A finished lesson's sound is saved in My sounds like any other.
- Signing in on the website (optional): you can sign in with Apple or Google. We then keep an account ID, the email address your provider shares with us, and the name it shares (Google also shares a link to your profile picture). Sign in with Apple uses the same account as in the app. The account page loads Apple's and Google's own sign-in buttons from them, under their privacy policies. Your browser keeps you signed in until you sign out. We use it to run your account and to write to you personally, for example to answer a message you sent or to thank you for joining. We never send newsletters or marketing.
- Founders and messages: during the beta, every new account is a Founder. We keep the date you joined and your Founder number. Your Founder badge is shown next to your name. If you send a message from the welcome page ("Say hello"), we keep it with your account so we can read it and reply. Only we can read it, and it's deleted with your account. When an account is made or a message arrives, the developer's phone gets a notification through ntfy (ntfy.sh) that says only that: the sign-in provider and the number of accounts, or that a message is waiting, never its text, your name or your email.
- Community boards (synthmaker.com/community): anyone can read them; to post, you sign in and choose a name. The ideas, bug reports, introductions and replies you post are public, shown with that name and, for Founders, the Founder badge and number. A bug report can include your device, system, browser and app version; they're filled in from your browser, and you can check or change them before you post. How many +1s an idea has is public, but only you can see which ideas you +1'd. The community rules, reports, blocks and moderation described under "The community" apply here too. When someone starts a thread, the developer's phone gets a notification through ntfy (ntfy.sh) that names the board and the author's Founder number or name, never what they wrote. Your posts are deleted with your account, except the safety records described under "Deleting your account".
- Your sounds and songs in your account (only when you're signed in): the sounds and songs you make on the website are also saved in your account, so they open in any browser where you sign in. When you first sign in, the sounds and songs you made in that browser before join your account. They're stored with Supabase in the European Union (Ireland), only you can read them, and they're deleted with your account. Signing out leaves the copies in that browser.
- You can delete the account on synthmaker.com/account, which deletes it everywhere, your sounds and songs included.
The Mac app from synthmaker.com
- When it opens, it tells us its version and that it's on a Mac, with a random number it made the first time it opened, and nothing else about you or your Mac. Signed in, the account it's signed in to comes along. You sign in through your browser, with the same Apple or Google account as the website. We use this to see how many copies are on each version, and for a signed-in account, which version it runs and when it was last opened, so we can help when something breaks. We keep only the latest report from each copy, with when it was first and last opened and how many times. It's stored with Supabase in the European Union (Ireland), only we can read it, and deleting your account removes the link to you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and up to date.
- Updates: it checks download.synthmaker.com (Cloudflare) for a newer version, and downloads it from there when you agree.
- The download button on synthmaker.com/mac counts each press, by day; nothing about who pressed it.
The AI features (in the apps)
When you describe a change ("make it darker"), your request and the sound's settings go to the AI model you choose in Settings:
- Apple on-device: nothing leaves your device.
- Apple Private Cloud Compute (where SynthMaker offers it): processed by Apple under its Private Cloud Compute privacy guarantees; not stored and not available to us.
- Your own server (for example LM Studio on your Mac): sent only to the address you enter, under that server's terms.
We never receive your AI requests.
The community (only if you join)
Anyone can read the in-app community (Ask the developer and the chat) without an account. To post, you sign in with Apple, choose a name and accept the community rules. Then we keep:
- Your account: an account ID, and the email address Sign in with Apple shares with us. You can choose Apple's "Hide My Email", which gives us a private relay address instead of your real one. We use it to run your account and to write to you personally, for example to answer a message you sent or to thank you for joining. We never send newsletters or marketing.
- Your profile: the name you choose, which is shown publicly next to what you post.
- What you post: your questions, replies and chat messages, with the time they were posted. These are public: anyone using SynthMaker can read them.
- Safety records: reports you make (with a copy of the reported post), the accounts you block (visible only to you), and a log of when you post, used for rate limits.
We use this data only to run the community and keep it safe: to show posts, enforce the rules, review reports and prevent abuse. When someone posts a question or makes a report, a notification with that text and the author's name is sent to a private channel the developer uses for moderation (on Discord).
The legal bases are our contract with you (running the community you joined) and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe (moderation and abuse prevention).
Where it is stored
Community data, the sounds and songs in your account, your messages to us and the Mac app's version reports are stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, on servers in the European Union (Ireland). Sign-in uses Apple's Sign in with Apple and, on the website, Sign in with Google. Like any server, ours records technical information such as IP addresses in short-lived logs for security and to keep the service running.
Deleting your account
On the website, open synthmaker.com/account › Delete account. This deletes your account everywhere, with your sounds, songs and messages, and removes the link between you and the Mac app's version reports.
In SynthMaker, open Community › your account › Delete account. After you confirm it's you, we delete your account, your profile and everything you posted. Your sounds and songs on your device are not affected. To also stop using Sign in with Apple with SynthMaker, open Settings on your device, tap your name, find Sign in with Apple, choose SynthMaker and tap Stop Using; the app shows you how.
A few safety records are kept, only as long as they are needed for moderation:
- reports you made about other people's posts, with your name removed;
- reports others made about your posts, with the copy of the reported post they include;
- if your account was banned for breaking the rules, a one-way fingerprint of your sign-in, so the ban still applies if you return.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or object to how we use it, by writing to us. You can delete your account yourself at any time, on synthmaker.com/account or in the app. If you are in the UK or the EU, you can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Children
The community is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has joined, write to us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in the app or on the website if the change is important.
